Hama Statement 9-6-2011

We swear by Almighty God that we are insistently carrying on with our peaceful struggle for freedom, democracy, justice, and for the precious blood of those who martyred along the way.
People in Hama have been repeatedly massacred, starting with the massacre in 1982 and ending with the one on Friday June 3rd, 2011 (Freedom Children’s Friday). Those massacres have been committed by repressive security forces against peaceful and unarmed protesters. The first call for a 3 day strike was very successful. Based on that, and on our belief in a peaceful revolution, we, the people of Hama, warn the Syrian authorities: if any similar scenarios are repeated then we will call for a civil strike starting with the following points, and peacefully escalating our strike as security forces escalate repression.
1. all shops and businesses will shut down
2. employees of both the public and private sector will not go to their work places, except for those working at bakeries and the sanitation sector (hospitals and pharmacies)
3. money deposited in public and private banks will be withdrawn
4. service bills such as electricity and water will not be paid
5. all types of fines and fees will not be paid
6. all governmental retail locations will be boycotted
We, the people of Hama, expect the generals and the members of the Syrian army to support their brothers and sisters in Hama through ignoring orders of murdering and intimidating the innocent residents.
In God we trust.
