Week of Detainees

Next Sunday Jul 31 2001: The Syrian Week campaign will organize a silent rally. Participants are asked to wear white colored clothes in order to increase confidence and to express the unity of those demanding to change the regime. The rally will be held in a critical neighborhood in the capital, close to Sabkee park, without posters and without any chants. This comes after two successful events were held last week in Arnous square and Victoria street. Those events helped the activists obtain confidence since they come from different parts of Damascus and they lack prior connection, in contrast to activists from other communities in Syria.
Meanwhile, the Week of the Detainees continue to remind the people of all Syrians detained before and during the revolution. One of the activities is the wide distribution of pamphlets about them. This campaign was launched by young activists, inspired by ideas of non violent resistance, using creative tactics in the popular struggle with the regime, and communicating the ideas of their nonviolent revolution and its demands of freedom and democracy to other Syrians, especially to regime supporters and those who still fear the upcoming change.
